In my position as founder and CEO of CDV Entertainment AG I have gotten to know Achim Heidelauf as a brilliant Producer, who had tremendous impact on the success and continuance of the company.
Not only has Achim produced and directed the first 3D strategy game by Related Designs (No Man’s Land, later: Anno-Series), especially his influence on the PANZERS-Series, as Producer, but also as Designer and Developer, has to be mentioned here.
Achim created some of the official playable demos, videos and other materials entirely on his own. Also, the basic gameplay was steered into a more “Arcade/Mainstream” direction and that is in my opinion one of the biggest reasons behind the huge international success of this brand.
Achims broad network of contacts in the gaming-, but also movie- and music- industries, has made way for the participation of ikones like Peter Weller and others.
Besides the mentioned examples, Achim has worked on more than half a dozen projects at CDV, coached Team-Members in the Producing department and has also had influence in other areas, such as Marketing and PR work.
I have always enjoyed working with Achim and want to give my utmost support recommendation. Shall a Publisher or Developer team look for a smart, creative and sympathetic team player, Achim is absolutely the right man!
I can only recommend Achim. He is extremely creative and delivers input about stuff I’d never realized myself!
Achim is a gem of a game producer – I’ve known him for 15 years and I’ve always admired his ability to immediately not only grasp but also improve the nuts and bolts of what makes a game tick, a very rare quality.
I’ve seen him turn good games into better games and I’ve seen him turn disaster projects into decent games. There are few who can do the latter.
I believe any studio or publisher that gets to work with him can consider itself very privileged.
Achim is the most creative and reliable video-game-guy I have ever met. He does not only know how to create great games, he also has a unique approach to merging different mediums, like he did with the Troma Project and currently with the Motörhead video game.
I have known Achim for almost a decade. In that time he has shown himself to be a true video game professional. His passion for games is undisputed, his knowledge of the history of games is faultless and the care and attention he gives his projects always lead them to success. There is an unrivalled understanding of what makes a good game, which he has in abundance.
Given the chance I would work with Achim without a second of hesitation.
Achim is an experienced producer who has fast and good understanding of the legal framework and of the individual agreements for his projects. When managing a project he diligent and aware of the legal requirements.
However, in most cases of conflict in a project Achim manages to diffuse conflicts without using the legal leverage. I enjoy working with Achim as a professional and as a friend.
Achim is an amazing and inspiring producer and product manager to work with. I met him first in 2000 and ever since working with him is a great pleasure. From creative concept to project management, he has a unique ability to coordinate a team and to focus on the important matters.
Practically speaking, Achim is a great producer with strong communication skills, a deep understanding of the game industry, and a very positive attitude that makes him an exceptional team player.
I strongly endorse Achim Heidelauf as a game producer and designer. He’s talented, organized, experienced, effective, and warm –– a truly winning combination. He’s the type of person you can trust without reservation. If anyone who is considering hiring him would like more specifics, feel free to email me at firstname.lastname@example.org
As an indie animation studio making our first game we were finding it difficult to get the right contacts and exposure. Achim has been extremely helpful to Rumpus. His genuine love and enthusiasm for games is infectious and within weeks he had arranged for us to have talks with many exciting contacts.
Achim and myself have been working on Codename: Panzers Phase 2, the sequel of the successful PC RTS title that Achim was already involved in heavily. He was the Producer, and I acted as a Lead Designer with part Project Management responsibilies. I had the opportunity to work with Achim on a daily basis for one and a half years. What seperates Achim from the many other Producers I’ve been working with, are his truly exceptional skills in Game Design and his ways to introduce those into a project without sacrificing the production schedule or, more important, the team work with our internal designers.
Besides being a joy to work with, Achim is a clever, and creative person who is able to present good ideas and its benefits. At the most complicated crunch times of development, his help was essential for the success of the project. The sum of his skills can be seen in the first singleplayer demo of “PANZERS Phase 2″ that was created entirely by Achim. Feedback has been amazing and it definitely helped selling the game to both fans and gamers new to the genre.
On a personal level, our cooperation was fruitful for both of us, and I really liked those times working towards a common vision with Achim. His personality helped the whole team survive tough moments, and motivated the team to produce an exceptional quality of product.
